Who says a cold January can't be fun?
Every year, the Niagara Region lights up with one of its most beloved and beautiful traditions: the Niagara Icewine Festival. Over the course of three magical weeks from January 11-27, winter wonderland festivities celebrate Ontario's icewine, a sweet dessert wine made from grapes left to freeze on the vine. Generally harvested between December and January, the grapes are pressed while still frozen, making for a sweet, unique wine that's incomparable to anything else.
This year, join us at Wheelz Niagara to enjoy events that not only celebrate icewine, but add an element of fun, community, and beauty to these cold winter weeks. Let's take a look at some of the incredible icewine events you'll love:
The Icewine Gala
On January 11 from 7-10 pm, the Icewine Gala entertains at Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls. For those who love a classy evening in formal attire, the Icewine Gala features 35 local wineries and top chefs. To enhance the feeling of winter wonder, gorgeous carved ice sculptures adorn the Grand Hall at the Casino Resort, and a "Northern Lights" theme sparks the imagination. Sparkling lights, icewine, dancing, and delicious food — what more could you ask for?
Niagara-on-the-Lake: Icewine Village
Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake makes an incredible transformation every year with its immersive Icewine Village. Open on weekends between January 19-27, this incredible Icewine village features local shops and gorgeous ice sculptures. And throughout the village, the festival's 26 wineries will amaze you with their world-famous wines. Admission is free, and you simply purchase tokens for wine samples and enjoy the offerings of various wineries and Signature Kitchen chefs.
And lest you think this will be a chilly affair, rest assured that you can enjoy warm beverages at the cozy coffee shops within Niagara-on-the-Lake. Warm up from the inside out as you enjoy the beautifully decorated and truly spectacular Icewine Village on Queen Street.
Twenty Valley Winter WineFest
Every year, more than 8,000 people flock to Twenty Valley's Winter WineFest in Jordan Village. This year, the 10th anniversary event will be open the weekend of January 11-13. With an Icewine Brunch and a Sparkling Dinner, it's a delightful event that includes more than 20 wineries and restaurants. With its mix of wintry beauty and lovely entertainment, it's an unforgettable event.
Niagara-on-the-Lake Sparkle & Ice Diamond Gala
Featuring the Signature Kitchen Chefs, this event takes place in the Grand Hall at Niagara-on-the-Lake's Courthouse and features many of the area's most amazing wineries. Red, white, sparkling, and (of course) icewine all take centre stage in this celebration. Keep warm with live entertainment inside the Courthouse as you taste delicious pairings. At the end of the event, look forward to an Icewine Toast and fireworks that light up the sky. The Sparkle & Ice Diamond Gala takes place on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 8 to 11 pm.
