Perhaps the best-kept secret about Niagara Falls and the surrounding region is the stunning beauty of the countryside. The falls are amazing and one of the most beautiful wonders of the world, but the temperate forests of the Niagara area burst into life this time of year and combined with the flowers peeking up, it is a sight unlike no other.
Spring is a fabulous season for a Niagara wine tour. Connect with that special someone or gather a group of friends and plan your trip. Don't limit yourself to wine; the area boasts numerous craft breweries, small-batch distilleries, and cider makers to please all tastes.
As you enjoy touring the countryside, it quickly becomes evident that the real star of the trip is the spectacular scenery. Bring a camera, or use your cell phone because the views are so picturesque all you need to do is point, click and voila! A fantastic photo.
The Niagara Escarpment, a unique area designated as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO which is a region characterized by three interconnected functions: conservation, sustainable development, and innovative management. Great emphasis is put on local communities when it comes to management.
The Niagara Escarpment (high cliffs) stretches from Lake Ontario near Niagara Falls to the Bruce Peninsula near Lake Huron. Niagara Falls was formed by waters flowing off ancient cliffs to the softer shale below. It features varying habitats from open plains to dense forests and clean lakes. Won’t you join us in our movement for a winery to be classified as a habitat as well? Joking aside, the geography of the Niagara Region makes for some very delicious sipping.
Due to the Great Lakes and the geography of the escarpment, warm air currents trap moderating temperatures in the region. The limestone soil and gravel slits near the shoreline combine to make the region ideal for grape growing. Imagine gentle spring breezes while strolling through a vineyard on a beautiful day; it's hard not to sigh just thinking about it.’
Knowledgeable, multi-generation, family-run wineries dot the area offering popular Chardonnays, Rieslings and Pinot Noirs. These friendly, award-winning Niagara wineries greet guests with a smile and happily answer any questions. Don’t be afraid to try mead, maple, and fruit wines, and even lavender infused wines! On the lighter side, rose and sparkling wines are the perfect complement for sitting and basking in the natural wonders around you.
With countless vineyards and boutique wineries to choose from in the area, imagine sitting on a patio sampling an exquisite wine, then continuing on your tour marveling at the stunning views of picturesque farms, never-ending vistas, and charming towns. We booked a private wine tour with Viator. Our local agency was Wheelz. Our guide/driver was knowledgeable of the area. He picked us up at our hotel and took us to 7 wineries in the Niagra on the Lake area. He knew all the best wineries and offered us coupons for free tastings at some of the stops. He had a great recommendation for lunch and never rushed us through the stops. I would use Wheelz again!Happy Tourist from Wisconsin See More
